Emmy Gaala järjestettiin 76 kerran ja siellä juhlittiin vuoden 2023 parhaita televisioalan saavutuksia.

Shogun aloitti illan johtajana ehdokkaissa 25:llä, ja laskettaessa Creative Arts Emmys -palkintoja päättyi 18:aan. Pääesityksen aikana Shogun käveli pois Emmy-palkinnoilla johtava näyttelijä draamassa, päänäyttelijä draamassa (Anna Sawai) ja ohjaus draama sarjaan(Frederick E.O. Toye). 18 voitollaan Shogun teki ennätyksen eniten voittoja yhden kauden aikana.

Television suurin ilta, vuoden 2025 Emmy-gaala, toi mukanaan jälleen melkoisen pläjäyksen yllätyksiä, uusia ennätyksiä ja hetkiä, jotka jäävät historiaan. Illan suurin sankari oli Seth Rogenin tähdittämä uusi Apple TV+ -komedia The Studio, joka kahmi peräti 12 palkintoa. Tämä teki siitä kaikkien aikojen eniten yhden kauden aikana palkintoja keränneen sarjan, joka päräytti ohi viime vuonna ennätyksen tehneen The Bearin.

The Studio rikkoi samalla myös ennätyksen parhaasta debyyttikaudesta: sen voitot ohittivat kirkkaasti The Bearin ensimmäisen kauden kymmenen palkintoa. Toisin sanoen, jos joku vielä mietti, kannattaako sarja ottaa katselulistalle, vastaus on selvä.

Yksittäisistä näyttelijöistä illan kirkkaimpia tähtiä oli Cristin Milioti, joka nappasi ensimmäisen Emmy-palkintonsa roolistaan Sofia Falconena HBO:n draamassa The Penguin. Samalla 15-vuotias Owen Cooper teki historiaa nuorimpana miesnäyttelijänä, joka on koskaan voittanut Emmyn – hänen roolinsa Netflixin Adolescence-minisarjassa ei jättänyt ketään kylmäksi.

Draamasarjojen puolella kilpailu oli tiukkaa, mutta lopulta The Pitt nappasi parhaan draaman Emmyn, jättäen taakseen jättihitit kuten Severance ja The White Lotus. Myös The Penguin loisti yhdeksällä palkinnollaan, ja The Last of Us nappasi edes yhden pystin äänileikkauksesta.

Illan lopputulos oli siis selvä: televisio elää parhainta kukoistustaan, ja Emmy-gaala muistutti, että pienellä ruudulla voi tehdä suuria tarinoita – ja vieläpä historiaa.

Amazon Prime Video on vahvistanut, että Tomb Raider -pelisarjaan perustuva uusi live action -sarja lähtee tuotantoon 19. tammikuuta 2026. Sarjan pääosassa Lara Croftina nähdään Game of Thronesista tuttu Sophie Turner, joka lupaa heittäytyä ikoniseen rooliin täysillä.

Sarjan luovana voimana toimii Fleabagista tunnettu Phoebe Waller-Bridge, joka vastaa käsikirjoituksesta ja toimii tuottajana. Hänen rinnalleen on pestattu Chad Hodge, joka toimii sekä vastaavana tuottajana että toisena showrunnerina. Ohjauksesta vastaa Jonathan van Tulleken, jolla on kokemusta muun muassa Shogun- ja Top Boy -sarjoista.

Turner seuraa roolissa isoja nimiä, Lara Croftia ovat aiemmin näytelleet valkokankaalla Angelina Jolie ja Alicia Vikander.

Nämä ovat valtavat saappaat täytettäväksi, mutta Phoeben johdolla Lara on hyvissä käsissä. – Turner kommentoi.

Amazon MGM Studios ja pelistudio Crystal Dynamics tuottavat sarjan yhteistyössä, ja tavoitteena on tuoda faneille ympäri maailmaa sekä uskollinen että uusia yllätyksiä tarjoava versio Lara Croftin seikkailuista. Waller-Bridge lupasi, että luvassa on samaa rohkeutta, räväkkyyttä ja huumoria, jonka vuoksi hahmo on valloittanut yleisön jo vuosikymmeniä.

Ensi-iltaa ei ole vielä paljastettu, mutta fanit voivat jo merkitä kalenteriin vuoden 2026 alun, jolloin kamera käy ja Lara Croftin uusi aikakausi alkaa.
